Remove your home location from a photo before you post it

For anyone who sells on Kleinanzeigen, eBay or Vinted, posts on social media or emails photos. Phone photos carry the exact place they were taken. Drop them in, see what is inside, remove it, and get smaller files. Everything happens in your browser.

  • Shows what each photo gives away before you clean it: GPS position (with altitude and direction), phone or camera model, lens, serial number, owner name, date and time, editing software, embedded preview image, XMP and IPTC blocks.
  • Removes all of it: every photo is redrawn from its pixels, so the new file has no EXIF, no GPS, no XMP or IPTC and no comments. Each result is read back and marked "checked: no EXIF, no GPS" before you download it.
  • Keeps photos the right way up: the camera's rotation is applied to the pixels, so nothing ends up sideways once the orientation tag is gone.
  • Resize presets for Kleinanzeigen, eBay, Vinted, Instagram and email, or your own longest side. Small photos are never enlarged.
  • Quality slider with before and after size per photo and in total; convert between JPEG, WebP and PNG.
  • Many photos at once, download one by one or all as a ZIP. Works offline once loaded; the page is not allowed to send anything over the network.

$ cat why.md

Every photo a phone takes at home carries the GPS position of that home. Most people who sell on Kleinanzeigen or Vinted do not know that, and most online compressors want you to upload the photo to their server first, which is the opposite of private. So I built one that shows you what is inside, removes it on your own device, and makes the files small enough for the listing in the same step.
