What it does
- Up to five questions: self-employment or property income, exemptions, and qualifying income over £50,000 in 2024-25, over £30,000 in 2025-26 or over £20,000 in 2026-27.
- Shows your start date: 6 April 2026, 6 April 2027 or 6 April 2028, or that you are not in yet. "Not sure" answers give the earliest and the latest possible date.
- Adds up your qualifying income: self-employment turnover plus your share of property income, before expenses, the way HMRC counts it.
- Lists your next deadlines: quarterly updates on 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May, the tax return on 31 January, and where penalty points start (2027-28).
- Puts those deadlines in your calendar (.ics file made in your browser, alert 7 days before each) or lets you ask for an email reminder.
- Every rule links to the HMRC page on GOV.UK it comes from, with the date it was checked. English and German, share or print your result.
Why I built it
Whether Making Tax Digital applies to you depends on two or three numbers from your tax returns, yet most explanations make you read a whole page to find your date. I built the German e-invoice deadline checker for the same kind of question, and this is its UK twin: your start date and your quarterly deadlines in under a minute. It also tells me how many people in the UK use my tools and which deadline they face, so I know what to build next.
Hafiz
Limits. Not tax advice. The checker summarises HMRC guidance on GOV.UK as of 19 October 2026 (thresholds, exemptions, quarterly deadlines, penalties); check with HMRC or an accountant before you rely on it.
